Travel and headspace

Whenever I travel I find new perspective, new ideas, new inspiration and a refreshed headspace.

Yes, it’s about recognising and savouring the moments I speak about in the next section, but I reckon there’s more to it.

I feel that, and I speak for myself here, that as humans we need to be open to change and open to actually be aware of life around us.

When we travel everything around us is primed for us to be open to change and awareness.

A new environment, people you don’t know and a switched on “what’s going on around me” sensor.

All those things make you focus on you and your surroundings a lot more than what normally do in your ‘normal life’.

I captured this moment a few days again in Oslo. For more on this moment check out episode #127 of my Morning Coffee video below.

I was in a new place, I was surrounded by strange people and everything just felt.. right.

In that moment moment I was aware, happy, content and grateful and I made this image to remind myself of that feeling.

To try and hold on to it!

I have had many moments like this while travelling and I always make a point of capturing the scene for myself. The moment.

The awareness and sense of awe I have – and always try desperately to hold on to – when I travel is like a drug and it makes me creative, inspired, grateful and it feels like… life!

As I was sitting there an older couple came in to the restaurant and sat down for lunch. As they sat down he asked her if the table was okay to which she replied yes, it’s good.

For the remainder of the time, while I was having a few beers, they did not say a single word to each other.

Now even though I totally understand how amazing it is to be able to be with someone and enjoy complete silence and be comfortable with it, I did feel quite sorry for them.

From what I could tell they were passengers on one of the huge cruise liners at the docks which means they were traveling in a foreign country and, from my point of view at least, missing out the privilege of the moments around them.

Each to his own, but I never want to get to a point where I disconnect from moments that mean something and that can give me a fresh perspective on the world around me and who I am as a person.

Guess the message in this would be that you have to be open to moments.

You have to be open to the your surroundings.

You have to be open to being aware.

You have to be open to the privilege of exploring (the world and yourself)

You have to be open to… life!

And travel does that for me. 🙏🏼
