What do you have control over today?

Date: October 13, 2025

You might need to see this quote by Maya Angelou today, this week or this season, “If you can’t change it, change the way you think about it.”

In life, there are moments when we must make a change, big or small, because we know we deserve better.

Change can be incredibly powerful. The moment you realise you need something different, take steps toward it, and finally feel the relief of moving forward… it’s exhilarating.

But sometimes, change isn’t that simple.

It might not be practical, possible, or even necessary in the bigger picture. That’s when reflection becomes essential. Before you rush into changing something, ask yourself:

  • Is this something I truly need to change?
  • Or do I just need to see it differently?

When something no longer brings us joy or reward, we often pull back – we stop giving it our full energy, passion, or respect. Yet, there are seasons when walking away isn’t an option. And in those moments, perspective becomes your power.

This isn’t about staying in unhealthy or inauthentic situations. It’s about recognising when you’ve already done what you can and learning how to shift your mindset so you can stay grounded, resilient, and open while you wait for the next step to unfold.

Maybe you’re in a job that doesn’t inspire you, but it provides stability, growth, or opportunity. Maybe you can’t quit right now. That’s okay. You don’t have to love every moment but you can choose how you think about it.

If you can’t change your circumstances right now, try this:

  • Practice gratitude daily to help you focus on what’s still serving you.
  • Keep your long-term goals alive (update your LinkedIn, take an online course, or start a side project).
  • Remind yourself that this season is temporary, and it’s building your resilience for what’s next.

You are the only one who can control your mindset.

So instead of giving in to frustration or powerlessness, take your power back by changing your perspective.

Your mindset is your most powerful tool, sometimes you just need to practice how to use it.
