Try something new

Okay, rant incoming…

Why do so many people in life decide whether something is going to work for them without actually trying it?

I mean honestly, do you even get how stupid that is?

How the hell are you so bloody full of yourself and so scared to try things that you know whether something is going to work for you or not without trying it?

Do you have any idea how much life you’re leaving on the table?

How much positivity?

Self improvement?

Happiness?

Mental health?

Health and wellness?

I find it absolutely absurd, and quite mind-blowing, how some people will not try new things to feel better – to be better – but then still bitch and moan that life is so hard and complain about every single aspect of their life.

For fucksakes man, if something in your life is not what you want it to be then step up to the plate and do something!

Try something!

Try something new!

Sitting back, bitching and moaning and feeling sorry for yourself without trying something new is not going to make anything better!

If nothing has worked for you thus far, what do you have to loose in trying something new?

Get over your pre-conceived idea of how you think life works and what you think you should and shouldn’t do in order to be a better version of yourself or even just to get out of a mental slump you might be going through.

Too many people are stuck in a place where their concern about what people think about them and their own ego-driven insecurities are making them not even be open to the idea of trying something new.

Unfortunately there is also still a stigma out there, often amongst men, which makes people believe that trying things like meditation, talking to someone, seeing a therapist or coach, self-care or journaling is not something that a ‘real man’ does.

Most guys like this will more than likely not admit it cause heaven forbid your mates think you’re ‘soft’. Listen, if you’re mates make you feel like that then fuck ‘em. Go find people who support you to be a better person. If this is you, here’s some advice… harden the fuck up, put your big boy pants on and start respecting yourself enough to want to be better.

Bullshitting people on social media is not going to make you feel better.
Bullshitting yourself on social media is not going to make you feel better.
More drinks won’t make you feel better.
Bitching and moaning and feeling sorry for yourself is not going to make you feel better.
More time on the couch is not going to make you feel better.
More of the same arguments with the same people won’t make you feel better.
More time with people who are holding you back from changing will not make you feel better.
Trying to convince yourself of your own bullshit is not going to make you feel better.

Insanity is doing the same thing again and again and expecting a different outcome each time.

So stop.

Just stop!

Gerry van der Walt

Start taking yourself seriously.
Start respecting yourself.
Start believing that you can be better.
Start believing that you can be happier.
Start trying things.
Start trying something NEW!

I’ve said this before but if you don’t try everything in order to improve or feel better or be better you have absolutely zero right to complain.

And no, you have not tried everything yet.

No, you haven’t.

Stop trying to convince yourself of that because you have resistance to actually doing it.

Pull off the band aid, harden the fuck up and get real with yourself.

Once more… unless you have tried every single thing out there you have zero right to complain.

Oh, and if you’re a photographer who decides, without looking through your camera or taking a few sketch shots whether a scene or subject can produce good images, you’re also leaving a lot of great images, learning and inspiration and fun on the table. If you’re photographer who does this, stop. Just stop.

Done. 😤
