Why positivity can feel fake

It is very common to feel fake when you try to be positive. This is especially true if you are not used to looking on the bright side or if you’re struggling with negative thoughts or emotions.

Here are a few reasons why it might feel fake to be positive:

  1. You may not believe it: If you are used to focusing on the negative or if you are feeling down, it can be hard to shift your perspective and focus on the positive. It may feel fake or forced to try to be positive when you do not genuinely believe it.
  2. You may feel like you are hiding your true feelings: If you are struggling with negative thoughts or emotions, it may feel like you are hiding or denying your true feelings if you try to be positive.
  3. You may feel like you are putting on a show: If you are not used to being positive, it may feel like you are putting on a show or pretending to be someone you are not.
  4. You may feel like you are not being authentic: If you are not used to expressing positive emotions, it may feel fake or inauthentic to try to be positive.

It is important to recognize that it is okay to have a range of emotions, including negative ones.

It is okay to feel down or to have negative thoughts from time to time.

It is also okay to take a break from trying to be positive and to allow yourself to feel and express your true emotions.

However, if you find that you are struggling with negative thinking or if you are struggling to find the positive in life, it may be helpful to seek support from a mental health professional or life coach – get in touch if you’d like to chat.

It’s okay to not be okay and negative sometimes.

But, and this is important, it’s also okay to be okay and positive.
