I'm a performance coach. I speak. And I plan and take part in extreme polar expeditions.
That sounds like three careers. It's one.
The ice is where I find out what actually holds under pressure. The coaching is where I hand that over, one person at a time. The speaking is the same material delivered to a lot of people at once.
553km across the Greenland ice cap in May 2026, team, unsupported. Twenty-five years leading expeditions across Africa, the Arctic and Southeast Asia. Fifteen years building and running a specialist photographic travel company I co-founded. An honours degree in sport psychology. A national gymnast a long time ago, which is where the physical side started.
None of that matters on its own. Together it means I understand how performance gets unlocked, mentally and physically, because I have had to do it for myself and for other people in places where getting it wrong carries a cost.
People come to me from one of two places.
Performance
You're already good. The business works, or the images are strong, or the career is on track. You've reached the edge of what your current way of operating can produce. You want more and you can't see where it comes from.
"What sets you apart is your passion for mindset. It's authentic, philosophical."
Dhir Jakharia, wildlife photographer, Nairobi
Repair
Something happened. A business, a relationship, a diagnosis, a loss, a stretch where you stopped recognising yourself. Before you can perform again, something needs fixing.
"Gerry has helped me find not only direction and purpose but also balance. My relationships are on the mend and life looks so much brighter."
Conal Benson, coaching client
That second one isn't a lesser version of the first conversation. Some of the best work I do starts there.
You don't need to know what you need. You need to know why.
Why you're frustrated. Why you feel lost. Why you want to be better than you are right now. Tell me that and we have something to work with, even when everything else is unclear. "I'm not sure where to start" is a perfectly good opening sentence as long as there's a why behind it.
What doesn't work is arriving with nothing. If you've read the books and done none of it, and the reading is going to be your way of pushing back, we'll both waste an hour. This work involves being pushed.
If you already know your why, the way in is Session Zero
They see the energy online and assume it will be too much.
Online is one register. One on one I work with whatever you bring. Some days the job is to lift you and get you moving. Other days it's to bring the whole thing down, settle your nervous system and work quietly. I adjust to you.
"I wasn't sure what to expect. I was afraid it might be overwhelming, but it wasn't. It was practical and personalized."
Susan Crow, photography coaching session
One practice, applied in five places.
One to one
Coaching over Zoom, from anywhere. Performance and mindset work for people carrying pressure. Creative work for photographers and anyone whose output is the thing being judged. Same method, different material.
On stage
Keynotes and talks that bring energy, perspective and something an audience can use on Monday morning. How Not to Die in Greenland. Hold the Line. Committed versus Interested.
With your team
Coaching and speaking deployed together, built for small management teams, small businesses and founders. Strategic sessions to work out what's actually going on, then the work to fix it.
Corporate advisoryWith other men
Basecamp. Somewhere men talk properly, one on one or in a small group. Most men don't have anywhere to do that.
BasecampOn the ice and on the road
My own expeditions are mine, and the next one is the South Pole. Separately, I take people travelling: private guided trips where I come along as a photographic guide, a specialist guide, or as your coach while you travel. Bespoke rather than scheduled. The immersions return in 2028.
Travel
Session Zero.
$100One hour, over ZoomOne hour, one on one, over Zoom. A real working session, not a sales call.
Anyone. Performance or creative, business or photography, both start in the same place.
A why. Not a plan, not a strategy, just the reason you're here.
$100, and it comes off the price of whatever we do next.
We work out whether there's something here and what it would take.
And if we're not a fit, I'll tell you inside that hour rather than take your money for six months.
If we do carry on, the work runs over three months, six months or a year, from $1,800. See the detail
