Do the hard things in 2024

Welcome to 2024!

Want to hear the truth?

Life is fucking hard.  

And you know what, that’s actually a pretty good thing.  

We weren’t designed to just sit around and do nothing.

We weren’t designed to watch Netflix all day.

We weren’t designed to sit at a desk and never use our body.

We were designed to overcome challenges, to do difficult things, to want be better.

Let me ask you this. If you were to design a human being from scratch and you could control and manipulate the environment what would you do in order to create a strong, positive, productive, resilient human being?

Guessing you won’t make things too easy for that person right?  You’d include things that are hard. Challenges. Potentially a few failures?

Why then do you shy away from these things?  Why hide from the things that will make you a better person?

That workout you don’t want to do.

The mail you don’t want to send.

Sticking to an eating plan.

Cold plunge.

Journaling.

Getting your steps in.

Focus.

Discipline.

The difficult things, the things you don’t want to do, build character.

Resilience.

Confidence.

Belief.

Self-esteem.

We live in a strange world where everything is about the hack. The easy way  Finding the shortest, easiest way to affect change without doing the work and paying your dues.  

The magic you’re looking for is in the work you’re avoiding.

And often this will mean you have to embrace the suck just a little bit!

It’s also too easy to look for excuses online.  

It’s too easy to find things to complain about, or get unnecessarily involved in, instead of doing the things you know you should be doing to be better and to make a better life for yourself.

Social media is not the real world.

Pop psychology is not psychology.

Everyone you dislike is not a narcissist.

Every unpleasant experience is not trauma.

Having needs does not make you codependent.

Disagreement is not gaslighting.

Conflict is not abuse.

Taking offence is not being triggered.

Everything does not need to be normalised.

Stop getting distracted by these things because if you’re looking to create a better 2024 for yourself, it’s time to start taking yourself seriously. Start doing the work. Start doing the difficult things.

You wanna know where to start?  

Stop just straight up listening to the little voice in your head and start debating with it.  That little voice will always tell you to take it easy. To start later. To take the easy route.  

Start talking back and start doing the thing!

Here’s the lesson out of all of this…

If you don’t have something difficult to push against, you will find something else in your life to struggle against.

Your relationship.

Goals.

Finances.

Work.

Your physical health.

Mental health.

The choice really is yours.

Let me ask you this again. If you were to design a human being from scratch and you could control and manipulate the environment what would you do in order to create a strong, positive, productive, resilient human being?

Because life is fucking hard. And you know what, that’s actually a pretty good thing!   

I’m super proud of some of my clients who are stepping out of their comfort zones in a big way this year and and doing the hard things.  Can’t wait to see the results for them and how they will be levelling up!
