Complaining

Do you know why it doesn’t help to complain?

Because no one actually listens.

It’s true.

Think about the last time someone came to you to complain. It’s annoying. You think of ways not to be on the receiving end of it. You just want to get away from it and move on.

You know it’s true!

This week at MalaMala I watched a coalition of male lions get good and properly fucked up. Like, for real. They were all kinds of broken.

One guys in particular was so banged up that he could not put any weight on his front right leg.

He struggled. He looked sorry for himself. He was in pain. He was alone. He was in real danger.

But you know what?

He didn’t complain about it.

He didn’t wait for someone to come and help him.

He just HTFU and moved on.

He kept trying to walk. He kept trying to stand up. He kept trying to get back to his own territory. He was hurting a lot.

But he did not complain.

Why?

Because he had no choice.

Now think about it… when you complain what are you expecting to happen?

Are you expecting someone to come and save you?

Someone to come and fight your battles for you?

Make difficult decisions for you?

Sorry to burst your bubble… ain’t gonna happen!

Complaining is not going to solve your problems.

Complaining is not going to make people want to support you or be with you

Complaining is simply you making people not want to be with you or listen to your incessant bitching and moaning.

So what is the answer?

Stop complaining and do something about whatever it is you’re complaining about.

You’ll feel more in control and people might then want to actually be around you.

And that’s a pretty great thing!
